What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang (or "Bang" for short) is a specific type of challenge usually involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms.
Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up to take part in the challenge and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc.

What forms of art are accepted?
For this event, Art can be either a compelete traditional or digital illustration.
What is promotional art?
The Promotional Art is part of the Artist's required work for this year's event. It will be used to promote the team's finished comllaboration on social media (similar to a post banner) during reveal week, and can be either a completely separate piece of work, or a cropped version of the full work, and might include fic title and team handles depending on what your team decides.
Do I need to create a whole new artwork for the promotional piece?
To be clear, there is no expectation of the artist creating a separate work of similar scope to the main piece if they do not wish to do so. A compositional edit of the main piece, or a suitable crop, will be more than enough.
Crop ratio examples: 4:1 (2048 x 512px), 2:1 (901 x 451px), 1:1 Square (1024 X 1024)
What does promotional art look like?
We've taken a page out of our previous Event Mods' books! Here are some examples from prior events (Obikin Reverse Big Bang 2025):
How do art claims and team matches work?
The anonymised list of fics will be shared with Artists as claims open, and we will assign a team based on what you tell us about your preferences. Exactly how this works will depend on the number of participants, so keep an eye out for announcements closer to claims opening.
How do Beta Reader assignments work?
Beta readers will have the chance to introduce themselves and how they like to work with authors on the event server.
An Author is not requred to work with a Beta Reader for this event (though we encourage it!). Authors might reach out directly to a Beta Reader via the Beta's introduction post in the server or over DMs, or even post what they're looking for instead - allowing Beta/Cheer Readers the opportunity to offer their services on a work that seems like a good fit.
If an Author is struggling to find a Beta reader, they can reach out to the mods, who will use our list of Beta reader participants to hopefully facilitate a match for the team.
Can an author bring or work with a Beta from outside the event?
Of course! We have an exctiing number of Beta readers who've signed up this year, so there should be more than enough help if you're worried about finding someone for either Cheer or Beta reading, but we also understand that some Authors have a working partnership with a Beta reader already, and that's more than fine too!
If an Author would like their Beta to have access to the server to work in their dedicated team space, we do require that they sign up to the event in order to be added.
Are there any restrictions on the type of fanwork an Author or Artist can create for the Big Bang?
All fics and fanart must be properly tagged, but there is otherwise no restriction on content, except that the work must focus on the relationship of Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. There is absolutely no requirement that this be a romantic/sexual relationship - all forms and facets of their connection are welcome.
I've heard the event is anonymous this year - is this true?
Yes! The event will remain anonymous up until works are revealed after posting. More details are provided to participants after sign-up.
Can I join the event server even if I'm not a participant?
Unfortunately, the event server is exclusively for participants at this time, as the space is designed around the creation process for our teams.
Can I join the event with more than one role?
Yes! You are more than welcome to join the event and participate in as many roles as you'd like (i.e. Artist, Author, and/or Beta Reader)! All we ask is that you complete the sign-up form again for each role you'd like.
